foundations | a place to call home

Amanda Rose is experiencing a season of life that many of us have also experienced: the transition between college days and the nine-to-five world. As some of us know well, this new season of life brings an array of elements along with it.

One element that is clearly defined: moving into a new apartment or house without the shelter of your parent’s name on the lease agreement. It’s a moment when so many young people realize their wings are about to get tested. It’s a brilliant feeling at the same time; opening the door to your own home signifies the start of a new chapter in life. A chapter filled with vivid independence, self-reliance and strength.

Amanda is gracefully taking on that challenge and reveling in what it has to offer. The new challenge landed her in an apartment in a very popular North Atlanta locale. Mix a bit of paved paradise, sharply dressed people, plus several fun shopping destinations and you get the glitter that is Buckhead. Amanda moved from her parent’s suburban home and has truly loved every moment of the past two weeks in her new place. From questions of which sofa to purchase, to exciting talk of the shorter work commute… this move was the perfect one.

Share a little about the moving process…
After graduating from college, it made perfect sense for me to return to my childhood home and live with my family. As an entry-level working girl, it was a financially smart decision. And, an added bonus; I love and adore my family. What a great opportunity for me to spend a little more time with them before growing my “big girl wings” and flying the coop.

When living at my parents’ hit 10 months, I was presented with the invitation to live with one of my dearest friends. Fast-forward three weeks, and I was waking up in a new bed, apartment, and in the city!

and what "change of seasons" it will bring to your life?
This move has definitely prompted a “change of seasons” in my life. Living with my parents was wonderful, but it was hard for me to truly grow up while still under their roof. Now that I have moved, I am fully responsible for myself- financially, socially, physically, and emotionally.

What emotions have you felt, so far, in this new chapter?
I fully expected to feel unsettled by this new move. It happened so fast, and as much as hate to admit this, I’m not the most graceful person when it comes to dealing with life change. However, I’m amazed at how quickly I’ve adjusted. I love my roommate, I love the area, I love the shorter commute to work, and I LOVE the Dunkin Donuts right next door. I’m content.

What’s something you’d like to start doing in your new neighborhood?
Buckhead is such an energetic area and there are definitely things I want to explore. My roommate and I’ve decided to try out one new restaurant a week. Last Saturday, we ventured to Tin Lizzy’s, which definitely lived up to its reputation. Great atmosphere, delicious food, and awesome margaritas!

Thanks to Amanda for sharing a bit of her life and heart.
Isn't it nice to know we are all going through or have gone through similar life changes...
